Extension Activities

I have investigated some reading and writing extensions activities in Susan Winebrenner's book called Teaching Gifted Kids in the Regular Classroom.  I have chosen a few activities to get you started on your Gifted students'  Journey to Reading and Writing - Extension Style.

It is encouraged that you review Winebrenner's book as it has many classroom tips and black line masters that would be beneficial.  In addition Kanevsky's tool kit for gifted learners (see sidebar for link) has many more resources listed for your viewing pleasure.

This link below is a ted talks video of classroom teacher, John Hunter, who challenges his class at all cognitive levels.  It is a must see.

  1. The Great Friday Event activity looks like something that might help foster skills that go beyond academia such as, team work, leadership, flexibility, self-regulation... etc. It also looks like a great way to help students form relationships with each other within different contexts. Moreover, it gives students a goal to work towards and it ends with validation of their hard work. Removes the pressure of needing to be good at everything.. some students will excel and take the lead in certain areas whereas others will do so in different areas
